UFC Planning A Liverpool Event Later In The Year

The Ultimate Fighting Championship are continuing to broaden their horizons by exploring the possibility of hosting an event in Liverpool later in the year according to MMAFighting.

The UFC has hosted English events in the likes of Manchester for UFC 204 as well as London but are yet to stage a show on Merseyside.

Sources have revealed that the company are seriously considering plans and that they are close to being finalised.

UFC Dublin is planned for later in the year but could be scrapped in favour of a move to Liverpool.

The meteoric rise of welterweight prospect and Liverpool native, Darren Till, has been crucial to the promotion looking to host an event in the city.

Till hasn’t fought since knocking out Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC Gdansk back in October and is extremely well received in his hometown.

European promotion, Cage Warriors, has hosted plenty of events in Liverpool’s Echo Arena to great success with emerging stars such as Paddy ‘The Baddy Pimblett’, ‘Meatball’ Molly McCann and Chris Fishgold receiving fantastic receptions.

Till has been campaigning for a fight for a while and claims many of the top welterweights are ducking him. A fight between him and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson failed to materialise and Till has said he will fight anyone in the top 20.

John Kavanagh has been actively campaigning for a meeting with SBG’s Gunnar Nelson which was expected to take place on the planned Dublin card but could now headline UFC Liverpool.

The UFC returns to England this week for UFC London which will be headlined by a heavyweight tilt between Fabricio Werdum and Alexander Volkov.
